Rayyan's 1st Trip to the Dentist

Rayyan got this sort of cavity in one of his teeth. Looked more like a chip on the wall than anything else, but that chipped wall has turned brown... so we set an appointment with the dental clinic. The one that me and Ja have been going to lately.. it's called SMILESHOP, over at Plaza Damas, Sri Hartamas, KL.

It's a little bit (well.. not so little) pricey but considering my fear of dental clinics, the agony of hearing the screeching machines drilling and scraping my teeth, I'm willing to pay... hehe.

Smileshop is a nice, little cosy unit in Plaza Damas, beautifully designed and decorated to look like a nice cosy little western house. It doesn't look like a normal clinic. And definitely removed the feel of agony during my visits. Well, of course the doctors and group of staff are REALLY friendly.

So, today, we went there for the appointment at 12 noon.

This is Rayyan, me, and Dr. Azwin...

Hohohohowhoaaa... before the above photo was taken, Rayyan ran out of the room as soon as he was asked to sit on that purple chair.. probably overwhelmed by the tools and machines surrounding him... LOL! And it doesn't help that ULTRAMAN was on TV in the "living room". I had to ask one of the staff to switch it off and asked Rayyan to settle for the cartoon movie on the screen instead.

Prior to this, we've been prepping him on this dentist thingy for the past few days... showing him the Smileshop website... browsing through the photos there, talking about the "magical" water tap that shoots out water into the paper cup as the cup is placed underneath, the computer screen that shows cartoons, and the cool orange specs that he gets to wear to avoid direct contact with the big lights... etc... oh and also how the dentist would tap on his teeth to check so that he can make them white and shiny... hahaha...

So, later, with a little coaxing on my part, we managed to continue the checkup...

This is Rayyan while watching cartoons on the computer screen, while the doctor checks on his teeth...

Oh, and check out that cool balloon that Dr Azwin created by blowing up his plastic glove and drawing a face on it.. cool! Dr Azwin explaining what was actually the problem with Rayyan's tooth...

So, Rayyan has this cavity problem due to not brushing well... well.. partly our fault for not really paying attention to the condition of his teeth before.. so now we know. The solution, according to Dr Azwin, Rayyan (well, me and Ja) just needs to brush properly to build up this sort of a protective layer against bacteria that would destroy his teeth. No filling is needed, as the "chip" was only affectng the outermost layer of the 3 layers of the teeth.. (was it the enamel?.. hahaha.. can't remember..) So the next thing the doctor could do was just to clean up Rayyan's teeth a little bit...

To prep Rayyan up further, I got him to play with the "magical" water tap and gargle the whole cup.

Dr Azwin testing the "brushing machine" on Rayyan's nails... haha another slow "familiarization" step before doing the actual thing...

Rayyan was okay with it.. so then comes the "baju hujan" as Dr Azwin puts it... hehe takut baju kotor when the cleansing of his teeth starts...

And of course, Rayyan asked for the cool shades... hahaha

And the cleansing starts... fuh.. looks like a surgery being conducted.. haha.. not that bad... with Rayyan's occasional rantings.. "dah la.. dah ke... okay laa... "

A few minutes later.. all done! Rayyan showing his bright white teeth while waiting in the "living room", with that plastic glove balloon.. hehehe..

Not too bad for a first visit to the dentist, eh? Of course, thanks to all the wonderful people at Smileshop for making it an interesting experience (as opposed to traumatic) for Rayyan... Peace!

For being a great sport, we took him to 1 Utama and asked him to choose the toy he wants... while shopping for his baju raya.. he chose this tow truck...

That truck set me back 80 bucks, compared to the RM30 dentist trip.

That's okay.. hahaha I'm just glad that all went well.. alhamdulillah...

Hehe.. Got tagged by Aunty Nana (hehehe.. from the sound of her name, one could imagine a cute 180 pound elderly Italian woman serving me delicious platter of cheesy lasagna, pasta in marinara sauce, feeding me till I'm fit enough to be her next ingredient). LOL!

Aunty Nana or just plain "Nana" as Papa & Mama and other friends of hers call her, is a longtime friend of Papa... we go back 15 years... Nana & Mozard (hubby) are proud parents of Yana & Zafier. 180 pounder? Nope, definitely not, although I'm sure she would want Mozard beef up to 180#... hahaha

P-A-"Pa", P-A-"Pa"

One of the reasons why we resorted to Rayyan calling us Papa and Mama from the beginning is because "pa" and "ma" are two of the first few syllable sounds that a baby can make. In educating the kids, we should always start with things that are closest to them. Teaching them to spell or write words that are meaningful to them is the best way to get them excited to learn more. Rayyan has been able to spell and write his name and Papa, Mama for awhile now. It's just that recently I taped him for the purpose of my presentation in promoting the "Bacalah Sayang" books in primary schools.

Soon I'll share with you guys more on the things me and Ja do with Rayyan on lots of educational stuff... especially Math! And they only take less than 10 minutes per day.

The key is to START with THINGS that are CLOSEST to THEM!

R-A-Y-Y-A-N

Today is me and Ja's 4th wedding anniversary. Nothing much else I could ask for in our marriage, except that it would continue to flourish till the end of time... and continue to be blessed with this guy who's spelling and writing out his name at 3. Hope this marriage would contribute to more little ones like this guy...

Rayyan's 3rd Birthday

We had Rayyan's birthday party 2 weeks after the actual date, on July 14th... so that Aunt Felishia could attend when she spent her holidays at home. Almost everyone we invited came. Some notable exclusions... Yana & Zafier (now in Birmingham, UK) and Daiyan and Darwish (due to Daiyan's suspected illness)... thanks everyone for the gifts...

The cake - from Baker's Cottage... Barney & Friends black forest cake
Candle blowing and cake-cutting...

We've actually had a small birthday celebration over a Sunday brunch on his actual birth date: July 1st at March'e Movenpick's at The Curve... Atok got almost the whole staff at March'e to sing happy birthday at our table, just before Rayyan cut his cake... malu giler budak tu... hahaha

Cruising Putrajaya

Hello from Putrajaya! We went to Rayyan's Mak Long's apartment in Precint 9 last weekend for lunch and then decided to take a stroll around Dataran Putra and snap some pictures...

We've always wanted to go on the Cruise Tasik but never got the chance. This time, we managed to do it.

Went to the counter to get the tickets. We had the choice of either going on the Gondola-type perahu called "Dondang Sayang" or the air-conditioned ferry called "Belimbing". The former is cheaper for obvious reasons.

Rayyan specifically asked for the Belimbing ride. So that set us back RM30 each for me and Ja, and RM0.99 for him. They've got a special promotion for kids on that day.

It was 5.30pm when we got the tickets, so we had to wait for the next trip at 6.00pm.

Spent some time at the souvenir shop. They've got t-shirts, postcards, batik, and some other cool stuff which was at reasonable prices, I think. Didn't get buy anything there, although I had my eyes on that postcard set. Rayyan had fun in there, though.

The Belimbing ferry was much bigger than the Dondang Sayang and can accommodate up to 76 passengers. We were lucky 'coz it was just us, a couple of other families, and a small group of Iranians were the only ones to board the 6pm trip.

It was a 45-minute cruise and the journey took us through all the great buildings, monuments, and bridges that make Putrajaya a perfect sight-seeing destination for all. And of course, here's our guy drinking again...

About half-way on our trip, we were allowed to go out. We took the opportunity to mingle with the skipper and the tour guide. And of course snap more pictures...

It was getting dark, and at about 6.45pm, it was the end of the cruise as we reached the point where we started.

So that's it. We went straight home afterwards. Rayyan spent almost the whole 30min car ride sleeping. Tired, huh?

I'll try and update this blog with more of his growing up pics soon. Till, then, bye...
